Broke, self-employed and loving it

So last week I was reminiscing things that I missed or didn’t miss when I had a job. And they were as follows:

  • waking up in the morning

  • fighting for the train

  • Living the house on time but being delayed by TFL

  • And that extortionate monthly agreement with Transport for London

So let’s look at a few.

It’s been 4 and half months and I am self-employed. Woohoo! And I intend to keep it that way. The feeling, that I get, from waking up in the morning knowing that I don’t have to get up at 6 and 7 and get dressed to get on the 8. 15am train, from Norwood Junction station, which always made me late.

You have no idea what that feeling is like. I was never an early bird in the first place. My dad use to say “you are no child of mine. Why can’t you get up in the morning like everybody else?”
The story of my life. Man, I hate waking up in the morning. Just the thought, that I use to pay £150 for travel a month, for a zone 1-4 to travel within London is outrageous. Especially, knowing that the journey should take 45 min but instead took 1h.30 min. Absolutely ridiculous.

I read in the Metro today, that they were putting the fares up and cringed a little. My worst experience with TFL was fighting to get on a cramped train and then be subjected to 15 min train journey ,which felt like the standard, local Congolese Transport (see Kolkata). A carriage filled with 100s of people, all squashed together, and ready to slave to market

It didn’t help knowing that I am claustrophobic, asthmatic and scared of terrorist attack.
I would have to repeat an affirmation to myself at least 10 times per journey and practiced deep controlled breathing slowly. “ I am comfortable within this environment, I am comfortable with this environment, I am comfortable with this environment” Thanks TFL for making my life hell. Now I don’t regret resigning from the £150 a month contract. It almost sounds like a divorce, in a good way.

I do miss my colleagues though and those lovely jelly beans and Percy pigs that I would get at Marks and Spencer‘s on the way home. That’s it really.
